Sports Massage

Sports massage is good for the weekend warrior as well as the serious athlete. The goal is to get the client as flexible as possible without compromising strength or creating new pain. All work is done pain free.

Often, I find a problem expressing itself in one region (as an example the knee) when in fact it is a problem in another area.

You can expect that I will always evaluate you during each session. The first session I will do all types of movement and function testing to see dysfunctional patterns in all parts of the body. The evaluation will involve special tests like the Thomas and Ober tests. You will also be tested for range of motion and it will be compared to established standards of ROM for each joint.

What would it be worth to the professional baseball pitcher if he could get 3 degrees more range of motion? The answer came from the pitching coach of the New York Yankees – it would mean another 5 mph on a fast ball. This increase may not seem like a lot but if you add it to a baseball already being thrown at 95 miles per hour, it can add up.

What would the same increase in range of motion mean to a volleyball player, a golfer, a gymnast? It may just be the competitive edge they need to win a title of go to the next competitive level.

But you don't have to be a competitive athlete to have issues.

Pain Management

At Blue Ridge Medical and Sport Massage, pain management is natural....no pills, powders, potions, scalpels, or needles. What does that mean? I'm going to search for the true cause of the pain by using special evaluations, range of motion tests, and palpation. From there, we work together to develop a treatment plan that works for you and any other practitioners you may be working with as well.

Some examples of chronic pain you may be experiencing include but are not limited to:

• Headaches/migraines

• Neck pain

• Back pain
